Understand true peak in the final check

A digital file stores samples, while playback reconstructs a continuous waveform. The reconstructed peak can exceed the largest stored sample. True-peak metering estimates this behavior and is useful when preparing a file for subsequent encoding or delivery.

Work through it

1. Check both sample peak and true peak using the available meters. Read the current delivery requirements for the destination rather than assuming one universal target.
2. Listen for distortion after limiting and after any required encoding. Meter readings complement listening; they do not establish that the master sounds good.
3. Keep a lossless master and label alternate delivery versions clearly. Recheck the final exported file rather than relying only on the processing settings.
